The Whisky Boom Reaches TV

The first of a three-part television series titled “Scotch! The Story of Whisky” aired in the beginning of October on BBC 2 Scotland. The series is also available to viewers across the nation via iPlayer, and so far the ratings have been great!

The series, starring Scottish actor David Hayman, delves into the many sides of the whisky world including its rich history and craft, while also focusing on the business and scientific aspects of the complex spirit today. The show is set to visit many key locations, including competitor whisky-producing countries like Japan. The recent movement of craft spirits, as well as the global triumph of Scotch whisky worldwide will also be introduced.

The trailer and first few episodes have set an exciting base for the show with the protagonist visiting world-renowned Scottish distilleries and conversing with giants of the industry on the science behind whisky production.

In more recent news, a special distillery map which was made specifically for the BBC show has been sold at auction for over £4,000. The silent auction ran for just under two weeks in November and attracted numerous bids from bars, private collectors, and visitor attractions worldwide.

Amidst the recent worldwide whisky boom and the worrying news that single malts will run out, BBC Scotland has sprung into action in an attempt to further promote the deep and wonderful world of whisky to the world. By reaching a large group of non-whisky fans and offering fun and educational content, the show is aiding in the cultivation of global interest in the timeless, wonderful spirit.

We are certainly not the only ones excited to see how far this interesting new series will reach.
