Widely regarded as one of the best Islay malts from the early 1980s (when the distillery stopped producing whisky), Port Ellen single malts are some of the most highly sought after Scottish whiskies.
Which is quite a reputation to live up to – but this Silver Seal bottling manages it without breaking a sweat.
On the nose, it’s a nutty delight; bags and bags of walnuts followed by smoky bonfire and hessian notes. As you sip, there are huge waves of salt and peat (obviously, it’s an Islay) followed by herbal teas. Diluted, it opens up to reveal lemony, almond notes and even more smoke.
In short, a complex and compelling whisky.

About Port Ellen Distillery
Port Ellen has become one of the most famed and highly sought Scottish whiskies. Much of this comes from the fact that the distillery has not produced spirits since 1983. Many experts say the whisky produced by Port Ellen prior to it’s closure are the best Islay malts from that time period. Stocks of this highly regarded spirit are starting to dwindle and prices have reacted accordingly. Collectors can be quite certain that these bottles will only continue to appreciate.
