The Macallan AERA Royal Black is an exciting Taiwanese exclusive release from Scotland’s most famous distillery. The release has been surrounded by a lot of hype, and with good reason. Aged in a combination of European and American Oak casks, this dram follows the latest Macallan trend of moving away from exclusively sherry cask matured whisky, but there is no doubt that the signature sherried style is still on full display here. The precious sherry cask oak was grown in Jerez in southern Spain and the forests in the north before being dried for four years, made into wooden barrels and then sedated for two years before being filled with Sherry. This process is carried out to strict regulations set by Macallan’s Master of Wood and it results in supreme quality casks that have dramatic effects on the distillery’s outstanding spirit. Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak Limited Edition Albert Watson
This limited edition Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak was released only for the Taiwanese market. It contains the same superb liquid that goes into the flagship sherry oak 12 Year Old and the stunning box was created by world famous photographer, Albert Watson. The artistic photography highlights the the long journey of the oak used for maturing the fine liquid inside, from the forests in Northern Spain, to the coopers in Jerez and then on to the world famous Macallan Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, to be filled. The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Illicit Still
The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Illicit Still was created to honour the distillery’s founder, George Smith, who illegally distilled whisky in hand-crafted copper stills in a hidden bothy near the Glenlivet Valley. He would smuggle his whisky across the Scottish Highlands to avoid paying the dreaded exciseman and get it safely into the hands of whisky-lovers up and down the country. Matured for a whole 12 years, it brings elegant notes of tropical fruits, buttery toast and candied peels on the nose, before dried fruits, rich oak and gentle cinnamon arrive on the palate. Macallan Edition No.2 (700ml)
The Macallan Edition No.2 is the second instalment in the Speyside distillery’s limited ‘Editions Series’. This delightful expression is a collaboration between Macallan master blender, Bob Dalgarno, and Spanish chefs Josep, Joan and Jordi Roca. It is a fruity and complex dram created from a combination of sherry butts, puncheons and refill hogsheads and the results are astounding. Ardbeg Dark Cove
The Ardbeg Dark Cove is an excellent limited edition single malt whisky from Islay’s famous Ardbeg distillery. This exceptional dram was released on 28th May 2016 for Ardbeg Day, the annual celebration that takes place during the hugely popular Feis Ile music and whisky festival. Matured in dark sherry and ex-bourbon casks, it brings notes of sticky dates, tobacco leaves, smoky bacon and that famous Ardbeg peat smoke together with ginger spice, rich treacle and sweet oak. Macallan Concept No.1
A 2018 limited edition release from the brilliant Macallan distillery that was inspired by surreal art and matured in sherry seasoned oak casks before being transferred to ex-bourbon casks for a similar time period. It is crafted to explore the differing effects casks can have on a dram while highlighting the distillery’s commitment to wood management and mastery. The results are once again astounding, with a whole array of notes including butterscotch, citrus fruits, green banana, ginger and soft oak spices bouncing off of each other, complimenting as they go.

The second release in the Macallan Concept Series, this No.2 bottling follows on from the first in style. A unique single malt, it brings together whisky and music, two passions of The Macallan whisky maker, Steve Bremner.Bremner is known to be an avid house DJ and he feels that “Building music is in some ways the same as building whisky. In music, you have to down the base track, just like you create the base flavour in whisky, and then you build layers around them”.
