The Black Lagoon single-malt whisky was created when legendary Japanese whisky critic, Hideo Yamaoka, teamed up with the creator of the Black Lagoon anime series, Rei Hiroe. Anyone who knows anime will immediately be able to identify Revy, the series’ main protagonist, on the label. For those that don’t, she is famed for her skill of using two weapons simultaneously and her ability to drink copious amounts of hard-liquor, often whisky.
For the spirit inside, Yamaoka chose to use Williamson, a name used for an unknown Islay distillery thought to be Laphroaig because that is where the famous Bessie Williamson became the first woman to manage a Scottish Distillery during the 20th century. It certainly holds many of the traits – from the distinctive whiffs of peat to the fruity finish. This is a very rare bottling but we have managed to get our hands on some for our whisky fans around the world.
