This Laphroaig single cask whisky from indie bottler, Clan Denny, is nothing short of remarkable. Distilled in 2000, it was then matured in a refill hogshead for 21 years before bottling, and it exhibits the depth of flavour that would expect from a whisky of this age. Peat smoke mingles with citrus fruits, charred oak, sea salt and a splash of tropical fruits on the nose, before more peat combines with candied peels and poached pears on the palate, before a long, smoky finish. It’s a truly brilliant creation and with only 256 bottles produced, its also collectible.
